Environnemental Management

Objectives

The Environmental Management Major (MANE) trains managerial executives who are specialists in the environmental (and, to a lesser extent, social) approaches adopted by public or private organizations.

Training is progressive over the two years, with increasing specialisation and operationalisation. Following a consolidation of the bases in Management, specific knowledge is developed in Environmental Management with the mastery of dedicated tools and appointed approaches.

This diploma also aims at training executives to be able of understand and interact with specialists from related or complementary disciplines (biologists, geographers, engineers, etc.), which is necessary to understand and deal with environmental and social issues.

These objectives cannot be achieved without curiosity and openness to social issues, prospective, technological developments…

Skills developed

Graduates who have completed this major will be able to:

  1. design and implement a CSR policy
  2. integrate environmental or societal dimensions into all company policies and strategies
  3. communicate internally and externally on the CSR carried out actions
  4. implement specifications in connection with a QHSE approach or related standards
  5. process, analyse and interpret collected data (questionnaires, surveys, carbon footprint) to answer environmental and CSR issues
  6. conduct environmental projects autonomously, or within multidisciplinary working groups
  7. work as a team, coach and motivate subordinates and peers.

Organization

The Master 1 is a full time educational programme with a minimum 3-month internship to be completed starting in April. This internship may be carried out abroad if the student wishes. During this first year, the major is given in the form of 3 teaching units over the 2 semesters with an in-depth study of CSR strategies, methodology and business management.

The Master 2 is given in an alternative training programme (professionalization or apprenticeship contracts) with a 2 weeks period at university followed by 2 weeks in the organization during the first 5 months, then a continuous presence in the organization for 7 months. The major is delivered in the form of 3 teaching units that address specific skills related to QHSE approaches, Environmental Management tools and Circular Economy Approaches.

Career

This master’s degree trains executives capable of steering environmental policies or, more broadly, CSR policies. More than 80% of graduates in Environmental Management find a job corresponding to their skills within 6 months after the end of the training. The positions occupied are equally shared between private and public structures, communities and associations. The most commonly held positions are those of (non-exhaustive list):

  • Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environment assistant and QHSE Manager.
  • Project Manager in Sustainable Development or Environment
  • Project Manager for the implementation of an EMS
  • Assistant CSR Manager
  • CSR Consultant
  • Project Manager for the implementation of Agenda 21
